Brief History Of Leadcity University Ibadan
The Eduserve Consult, the proprietor of Lead City University, Ibadan, has achieved great success in fostering educational growth at both the tertiary and non-tertiary levels, particularly in the City of Ibadan.
The University presented its application to the National Universities Commission in 2002. The Standing Committee on Private Universities (SCOPU) performed verification and final assessment inspections in August and September 2003, respectively. After the evaluation visits, SCOPU concluded that the profile of Lead City University’s Proprietor confirmed the institution’s capacity and resources to build a private university. The University was then “approved for immediate take-off” by the NUC Board in December 2003, paving the way for confirmation by the Federal Executive Council on February 16, 2005.
Though the University’s charter lists City University, Ibadan as its name, due to several cases of misidentification and to avoid a corporate identity problem, the Board of Trustees and Council of the University held an extraordinary meeting on March 7, 2005, and resolved to change the name to Lead City University, Ibadan. The name change was subsequently announced to the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and other stakeholders, while all previous records about City University, Ibadan remain valid.
